ALLIANCE FOR COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEVELOPMENT (ACED)

Introduction

Alliance for Community and Environmental Development (ACED) is a non -governmental and non-profit organization being registered in Tanzania under the Non Governmental Organization Act, 2002 with the registration number 00NGO/00007327. It is committed to offer environmental and social development programmes to Tanzanian communities. The organization provides technical, educational and material assistance to communities. It was established by six founder members in 2014 with the main purpose of fostering community and environmental development activities. The head office is located in Muleba district Kagera region.



  Organization Background

 Alliance for Community and Environmental Development (ACED) was formally known as Muleba Environmental Rehabilitation and Conservation Cooperative Society (MERCCOS) being registered as a community based organization. MERCCOS was registered under Union of Cooperative Society Act N0. 15 of 1991, section 30 with the registration number 5527. It was established in 1999 with the main objective of promoting environmental rehabilitation and conservation in Muleba district. The organization had ten founder members being working with communities in 5 division of Muleba District supporting their strategies towards conserving and rehabilitating the degraded areas since 1999 up to 2013.  The head quarter was located in Mbunda Ward before it was shifted to Muleba Township in 2013. In 2010 the team of ten founder members disintegrated and remained with only four members. Thereafter, in 2011 two more new members joined the four members to make a total of six members. In July 10 2013 MERCCOS was officially transformed into ACED to become an NGO with the authority of operating in Muleba and other Districts in Tanzania mainland. The organization operated as NGO for 12 month since July 10 2013 to July 2014 when it was officially registered as a non -governmental and non-profit organization under the Non Governmental Organization Act, 2002 with the registration number 00NGO/00007327.

The vision of the organization is to have a developed community that recognizes the importance of environmental conservation.

The Mission of the Organization is to create a social network that educates and raises awareness in terms of social development and environmental conservation for the benefits of the current and future generation.

Organization’s Objectives

·         To develop, identify and integrate vulnerable groups through their groups from the county level, divisional districts and build capacity to interact in the course of their development.

·          To create small groups and various income generating activities for enabling them to lift their income.

·         To develop programs and provide entrepreneurship training to the community members and special groups engaging in income generating activities.

·          To provide advice and support to children living in high-risk settings and enable the access to education, health care and better living standards.

·         To educate on the importance of environmental protection and the effect of damage to the environment.

·         To provide education, advice and management of tree plantations.

·         Awareness raising, provide education, monitoring and support of the establishment of a wide range of beekeeping practices.

·         To prepare professionals to educate the community about the importance of the use of standardized cooking Stoves and constructing standardized stoves to reduce the use of wood / charcoal.

·         Capacity-building for environmental committees at the village level to increase the efficiency of environment protection.

·         To identify forest areas affected by human activities in order to rehabilitate to their original state.

·         Additional, focusing on conservation of water sources around the protected areas.

·         To provide knowledge about the planning and management of agro-forestry practices in the community.

·         To provide education, advice and cooperation to tree farmers in improving their farms together with finding a guaranteed market exposure for their tree plantations.

·         To consolidate various sectors in the community to achieve a better preservation of the environment.
